Description

The Herschel Halo is our highly innovative, zero light specialist heater designed to provide churches and heritage buildings with a net zero heating solution – delivering cost-efficient radiant comfort whilst preserving and protecting historic interiors and artifacts. The Halo has been designed in direct response to high demand (Registered UK Design No. 6321585).

Following extensive research and development the Halo is manufactured in the UK by Herschel, using British made steel along with aerospace-grade aluminium. Beautifully designed to complement the heritage aesthetic, Halo suspends from high ceilings to effectively warm hard to heat spaces. Emitting zero light heat using far infrared radiant technology, the Halo will directly, gently and safely warm people, objects and the building rather than warming volumes of air like alternative convection heaters. With the option to add dimmable LED lights and stunning decorative finishes, the Halo provides the ideal heating solution for places of worship, listed properties, theatres, hotel lobbies as well as large industrial spaces.

Energy monitoring of Halo heaters in a UK Church over the winter of 2022/23 showed an 80% reduction in energy used and 63% reduction in the heating bill compared to running the gas heating system. Per service this equates to a cost of around 17-20 because the heaters only need to be on for the duration of the service. In comparison the gas system would have to run on full for many hours in advance of the service to heat the church and at current prices would be costing up to 100 per service on cold days.

The Halo is available in 4.8kW and 7.8kW and should be used in conjunction with the Herschel APX Controller. Herschel provides a range of bespoke APX control options including simple on/off operation to more sophisticated controls including three power levels (2.6kW, 5.2kW and 7.8kW) for the 7.8kW model, thermostat and remote App control plus motion detection to ensure efficient operation according to your requirements. With Herschel’s long life Kanthal ceramic elements and no moving parts, Halo is maintenance free, has no hazardous components and is 98% recyclable. To ensure the Herschel Heritage range incorporates the very best components and finishings, the grill has been nickel-plated to deliver longevity and protection against corrosion. Delivering fast warm up times and the ultimate flexibility in control, Halo can be used to either gently heat occupants in defined bubbles, within large spaces, or alternatively heat the entire building. Compared to heat pumps and convection based systems savings of over 50% on consumption can be achieved, delivering reduced energy consumption via a 100% CO2 free sustainable solution, when combined with renewables.

The recommended height for installation of the 4.8kW Halo is 3.5 – 4.5m, with a heated area of 20 – 40m2. The recommended height for installation of the 7.8kW Halo is 4 – 6.5m, with a heated area of 30 – 60m2. These areas are a guideline only and will be impacted by airflow and ambient temperatures. Dependent upon the property age/type, insulation levels and levels of airflow present, the number of heaters required and running times will vary. For larger domestic or commercial projects we recommend the Herschel Heritage team carry out a survey or detailed desktop assessment.

Our Heritage team offer a full specification service including 3D scans and visual representations, where appropriate, using the very latest technology. Take a look at this link to see a 3D scan of the Halo heaters installed at St Matthew’s Church in Bristol.

Please note this is a Special Order item that is made to order. Please contact Herschel to discuss your Halo specification and APX controls prior to ordering.

Please contact Herschel Infrared for more information and to discuss how the Halo heaters and lighting can be controlled by our own APX system offering different options of control.

Electromagnetic tolerance: Low emission

Models:

Options available for with/without LED lights and with/without decorative finish. Bespoke decor/colour options also available.

Installation:

Hanging System: This unit is for ceiling mounting only and must be installed beyond the reach of people due to the high surface temperature. It can be hung using a number of different mechanisms from wires to chains (provided by others) which must be capable of handling 4 x the weight of the heater.

Heated Zone: 20m2 – 40m2 (4.8kW Halo), 30m2 – 60m2 (7.8kW Halo)

The heater will directly warm people and objects within the Heated Zone (note: air movement may reduce area coverage). Within enclosed areas the thermal mass of the building will also be heated within the entire zone. Dependent upon the property age/type, insulation levels, number of heaters used and running times this will increase the ambient temperatures. For larger commercial projects or where different mounting heights are required we would always recommend Herschel carry out a survey or detailed desktop assessment.

The heaters are not suitable for household or similar use. Also, the heaters must not be used or installed in any commercial premises where they can be accidentally touched.
